Oga Kuzu-Bako

This photo was taken inside the Omotesando station.  The big kana/kanji sign on the box says “oga kuzu-bako”, which translates to “sawdust bin”.  I think the most appropriate interpretation would be “vomit station”.  Vomiting on the train platforms in Tokyo poses enough problems that many train stations have these large metal bins containing sawdust for conveniently swabbing up people’s vomit.

If the cleaning crew doesn’t get to the vomit in time, the rats are always nearby and willing to help out with the removal…
